전영재 연구실은 화학열역학과 액정화학을 기반으로 물질의 상거동과 기능성 유기재료의 전기광학 특성을 연구해 왔으며, 최근에는 폐기물 자원화, 바이오연료 생산, 열화학적 전환, 이산화탄소 활용 등 지속가능 화학 및 에너지 응용 분야로 연구를 확장하며 기초화학과 응용화학을 연결하는 융합 연구를 수행하고 있다.
