Alternative Scheme of INS-Dependent Positioning for Relative Navigation without GRUs

Position information is important to carry out military operations. In general, GPS is used to estimate position. However, GPS is vulnerable to jamming due to the low received signal strength, therefore GPS can be easily jammed. The relative navigation is an auxiliary navigation system defined in JTIDS. When GPS is jammed, the relative navigation requires ground reference units on the ground to operate accurately. If the ground reference unit does not exist, nodes operated by the relative navigation depend on the inertial navigation system to identify their position. However, this positioning scheme based on only INS causes accumulative position error, therefore the nodes cannot identify their position accurately for a long time. In this paper, we propose an alternative to reduce position error generated by depending inertial navigation system. In order to verify that the performance of proposed scheme is better than that of the existing scheme, various simulations are conducted.

In this paper, we propose an allocation scheme for variable message packings to increase efficiency of military operation using Link-16 which is well-known for tactical data link by delivering imagery information rapidly. We propose a variable message packing scheme using COC waveform to support variable data rate under some coverage limitation. Variety of message packing makes Link-16 vary transmission rate appropriately for tactical environment. We also propose a allocation scheme to assign message packing to time slot properly. Finally we verify the performance and superiority of proposed ideas by simulations.
Improved WiMedia system supporting MIMO for wireless HD STB and mobile device

We propose a multi-band (MB) - orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) ultra wideband (UWB) system for the wireless transmission of high-definition (HD) video signals from a set-top box to HD monitors. The system supports both single and multiple antennas by improving WiMedia. The proposed system with multiple antennas having a diversity order of four can support a data rate of at least 1 Gbps with reduced complexity. The proposed WiMedia system with multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technology is very robust against to the shadow fading.
When the difference of the signal power between multiple interference signals is very large, the conventional adaptive array cannot remove all the interference signals effectively. This causes a slow convergence rate and degrades the performance of the array system. The reason is that the adaptive array adapts only the interference signal having the highest power. We propose an improved adaptive array structure from the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) point of view. We utilize correlation improvement techniques between the input and the array output signals by controlling the gain of the array output signal. The proposed array called the automatic gain controlled (AGC) Applebaum (1976) array works well in multiple interference signals with different power levels. We can get the performance improvement of about 25 dB in SINR and much faster convergence rate over the conventional one.

When the eigenvalues of the input covariance matrix of an array system spread by orders of magnitude, conventional adaptive arrays can't remove all the interference signals effectively In this paper, an Applebaum array adopting an adaptive gain controller (AGC) in the feedback loop of the array is proposed When eigenvalue spreaded interferences are incident to an array, a high power interference is removed easily in several iterations while a relative low power interference which is a cause of eigenvalue spread is still remained In the array output After some initial iterations, the proposed array increases the correlation between the low power interference and the array output by amplifying the output signal of the array As a result, the weights vector adapts to the direction of the low power interference as well as that of the high power interference Computer simulation results show that the proposed array gives high output signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR) and a fast convergence speed

We present the performance of the Viterbi decoder using the soft decision method for the European digital video broadcasting for terrestrial (DVB-T) specification in Rayleigh fading channels. We investigate the bit error rate (BER) performance of the Viterbi decoder for hard and soft decisions in terms of the decoding depth and the number of allocated bits for the soft decision. We also consider the decoder performance in the Doppler shift. The simulation results show that the Viterbi decoder with 5-bit decision and the decoding depth of 55 is a sub-optimum decoder.
